  • Young Women's Skilled Trades Conference

    Sixteen students from grades 9-12 attended the Skills Ontario conference for Young Women in Toronto on May 8th.  Students were inspired by a mentor panel of females who explained their challenges and successes working in the areas of Plumbing, Construction, Manufacturing, and Hairstyling & Esthetics.  Keynote speaker and CEO Mandy Rennehan challenged students to re-think "the collar blue" when she explained how "one woman in the skilled trades is an army."  Mandy's success story showed our students that they can accomplish anything by being true to themselves and working hard.

  • Red Dress Project

    During the week of May 7th, students from the "Social Change Makers" group organized a Red Dress Project event to raise awarness of the many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Canada. Organizer, Maggie Downer, said "We think the Red Dress is a visualization of the suffering of the women and their families." On Monday, Sarah Dunkly, a member of the Ontario Native Women's Association visited to share her work with the students and to present a small gift.
