The English department offers a variety of courses designed to develop the oral communication, reading, writing, and media literacy skills that students need for success in their secondary school, daily, and working lives. Further, it is our intention within each English course to help students develop critical and creative thinking skills, as well as the ability to communicate their thoughts effectively. Whether students are working on literacy skills in authentic contexts, developing appropriate strategies to improve comprehension, or analysing and interpreting literary texts from contemporary and historical periods, our English courses are designed to teach our students important learning, thinking and occupational skills that are universally applicable. These courses are intended to help prepare students for their eventual entry into University, College or the Workplace.
