As a part of Treaty Recognition Week in Ontario Jo Brown from Tyendinaga Territory was in the Learning Commons for a discussion and workshop on treaties and wapum belts. He will also shared the stories from his family members that were enrolled in residential school. Thanks to Mr. Shortly and the team of teachers for organizing this event.
We held our first ever Distracted Driving Week from November 1-8, 2017. This week was made possible by our local OPP and Hastings and Prince Edward Public Heath. Highlights of the week included classroom visits from OPP to share the legal and social implications of distracted driving as well as a pledge by students and staff to stop distracted driving.
Students in our 7 Native Studies courses took part in the Kairos Blanket Exercise today. This is a teaching tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada.

The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) is a formal structure and an important advisory body, established in accordance with Ontario Regulation 612/00 and Board Policy 11-K: Parent Involvement Committee. The purpose of the PIC is to support, encourage and enhance parent engagement at the board level in order to improve student achievement and well-being. The PIC does this by providing information and advice to the Board on parent engagement, communicating with and supporting school councils and undertaking activities to help parents support their children’s learning.
